Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you!Isaiah 49:15
Zion has just said the Lord has forgotten her. God reaches for the strongest bond people know, a mother and her nursing child, and says his own is stronger. The next verse says she’s engraved on his palms.
Read it in context.
Isaiah 49
13Sing, heavens, and be joyful, earth! Break out into singing, mountains! For the LORD has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted. 14But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.” 15“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you! 16Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. Your walls are continually before me. 17Your children hurry. Your destroyers and those who devastated you will leave you.
In other Bibles.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the son of her womb? Even if she could forget, I will not forget you!
