The short answer
Add a verse widget. Install a Bible app with widgets, such as Versomi, then touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose a Daily Verse widget. It shows a new verse each day, and tapping it opens the full passage.
How to add a verse of the day widget to your Home Screen
These steps use Versomi, which has free Daily Verse, Hourly Verse and Favorite Verse widgets. Most Bible apps with widgets work the same way.
- Install Versomi from the App Store and open it once.
- Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle.
- Tap Edit, then Add Widget. On earlier versions of iOS, tap the + button.
- Search for Versomi. Swipe to choose Daily Verse, Hourly Verse or Favorite Verse, and a size.
- Tap Add Widget, move it where you like, then tap Done.
How to put a Bible verse on your Lock Screen
- Unlock your iPhone, stay on the Lock Screen, and touch and hold the background.
- Tap Customize, then Lock Screen if asked.
- Tap Add Widgets below the clock. For a one-line verse, tap the date above the clock instead.
- Find Versomi, then tap a Daily Verse, Hourly Verse or Favorite Verse widget. If there’s no room, remove an existing widget first.
- Close the widget picker and tap Done to save.
Lock Screen widgets take your wallpaper’s colors, while Home Screen widgets use the theme you pick in the app.
Daily, Hourly or Favorite: which verse widget should you use?
- Daily Verse: a new verse each day. Best if you want one verse to carry through the day.
- Hourly Verse: a new verse each hour. Good if you check your phone often and like variety.
- Favorite Verse: one verse you choose. Best for memorizing. In Versomi, touch and hold a verse in the reader and choose Set as widget verse.
Whichever you pick, tap the widget to read the full passage around the verse.
Turn the verse of the day into a reading habit
A widget puts Scripture in front of you, but the habit forms when you tap it. Try this: when you first see the verse in the morning, open it and read the paragraph around it. That takes a minute or two, and it turns a glance into reading.
Once that feels normal, give it a goal. Versomi lets you set 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes a day and keeps your place. Our guide to building a daily Bible reading habit has a four-week starter rhythm.

Common questions
Is there a free Bible verse of the day widget for iPhone?
Yes. Versomi is free to download, and its Daily Verse, Hourly Verse and Favorite Verse widgets are free on the Home Screen and Lock Screen. Optional Versomi Plus adds more widget styles and removes ads.
Why isn’t my verse widget showing a new verse?
iOS decides exactly when widgets refresh, so a change can lag a little. If a widget looks stuck, open Versomi once, or remove the widget and add it again.
Can you choose the verse on your widget?
Yes. In Versomi, touch and hold any verse, choose Set as widget verse, and add the Favorite Verse widget. The verse stays until you change it.
